2008 Campaign Allegedly Affected by Palin Email Hack

Sarah Palin—one of the most controversial vice-presidential candidates in recent memory who has left an indelible mark in not only the 2008 elections but also pop culture history in general—has made yet another infamous (or rather, obtuse) remark regarding the events that hounded her unsuccessful campaign bid.

To be more precise, Palin claims in her new book, "Going Rogue: An American Life", that the hijacking of her Yahoo web account was the most unsettling and daunting event throughout her vice-presidential election run, which critics would probably find laughable considering the many other more notorious issues plaguing her GOP campaign with presidential candidate John McCain (namely, her failure in handling questions regarding foreign policy and the controversy surrounding the pregnancy of her daughter, Bristol Palin).

The commandeering of Palin's personal email account in September of last year allegedly caused the "paralysis" of her campaign by cutting her off from her Alaskan staff; however, many a detractor of the former Alaskan governor would take note that she should have gotten access to a more secure server other than the publicly used and notoriously penetrable Yahoo email, and her inability to think ahead could be seen as an indication of her already questionable competency level as a public official.

At any rate, her incriminating confession supports the earlier assertions that her Yahoo email account was actually utilized to conduct political business and may consequently (and ironically) help the defense of the perpetrator of the hack, David Kernell (who is the son of a Tennessee-based Democractic state legislator). Palin further testified how she found out about the hack through a television program she spotted while on her campaign trail in Michigan. She then expressed her utter dismay at seeing her personal messages scrolling across the TV screen.

Palin related how appalled she was to realize that millions of people across the worldwide web could read her private correspondences, which included a message from a friend of hers who had written about her feelings regarding her imminent divorce. The ex-GOP vice-presidential candidate then questioned the moral scruples of the network that aired that particular item. All the same, the Palin email hack had revealed the email addresses and phone numbers of the former beauty queen's children who had started getting "vulgar email threats and phone calls" soon after.
