Cloud Computing Advice, Dangers, and Perks

How can governments and businesses get the myriad of advantages and benefits that cloud computing has to offer without putting their organization at risk of security threats from hackers, malware, identity theft, and online scams? Well, the European Network and Information Security Agency (also known as ENISA) has just issued a new study on cloud computing recommendations, risks, and benefits when it comes to IT security.

The paper deals with legal-, technical-, and policy-related implications of cloud computing as well as covers useful advice that addresses the dangers of using the untested innovation while maximizing its full potential for the users' sake. ENISA's article is the first one to take a standalone yet comprehensive examination of all the privacy and security matters of implementing the cloud platform. Furthermore, the piece summarizes some of the IT security advantages of cloud computing and its thirty-five key security detriments in one all-inclusive report.

ENISA and its extensive staff of security specialists launched a survey that questioned companies regarding their main worries about shifting into the cloud. According to Giles Hogben (the editor of the report and ENISA expert extraordinaire), the "big picture" that ENISA gleaned from the survey results was clear and plain to see: the commercial use for cloud computing is quite evident in terms of on-demand, commitment-free, and continuously available computing services.

However, a lot of corporations have expressed second thoughts on implementing this new technology because they are unsure of just how safe and protected their data is and whether or not they should entrust their entire business infrastructure on their respective cloud provider. All the same, the study explores this issue via a comprehensive inventory of standards that anyone can use to distinguish whether a cloud provider is security-savvy enough or not to protect your precious databases.

Daniele Cattedu, the ENISA report coeditor, guarantees that the paper's checklist has been thoroughly researched and compiled so that it could be used on a practical, real-life basis. It was developed using careful risk examination on a countless number of cloud computing scenarios while also concentrating on the needs of the consumers. The major threats acknowledged by the catalog include legal risks such as the failure to follow data protection laws, malfunctions in mechanisms separating customers' applications and data, and lock-in incidents.
