| D-Link Improves Routers Captcha style |
| D-Link, a network hardware vendor, is improving its network routers by using Captcha code in its network hardware. In doing so, they aim to prevent malicious software (malware) from hijacking and manipulating the network and effectively slowing it down. The acronym "Captcha" which is based on the term Capture, actually means "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart". It does exactly that. One type of Captcha coding uses software that distorts words into images that humans can understand but computers cannot. So this type of Captcha is used by most online e-mail sites and online registration sites. Basically it creates images containing symbols that a human could recognize while automated malware is not able to do so. Since current image recognition software can not distinguish words distorted in this manner, this means so malware can not either. Because of the continuing increase in sophisticated malware, adding this kind of code prevents worms and malware to do their damage on the networks. Therefore maintaining the quality of the network and not letting the network slow down. The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of D-link, AJ Wang announced that their proprietary designs ensure better security in their routers and that they are very enthusiastic about being the first in the industry to incorporate this kind of security measure effectively increasing the layers of Security in thier routers. And this makes their routers less susceptible to viruses, trojans, viruses and worms. One particular Trojan horse hijacks the router, changes the target's Domain Name System (DNS) and diverts all succeeding network traffic to the attacker's network before directing it back to the victim's domain. Since this addition, this trojan is unable to invade the router. D-link provides products for networking, digital electronics, broadband internet, data and voice communications. And provinces homes, Small office, and Home Office networks, Small to Medium sized Businesses (SMB) and Workgroup to Enterprise environments many networking solutions. Router models incorporating this new technology are listed here: DIR-615, DIR-625, DIR-628, DIR-655, DIR-825, DIR-855, DIR-685, and DGL-4500. To get the update on these models, customers are advised to visit the D-link website at support.dlink.com and download the upgrade. Pioneering this addition to network security, D-Link continues to apply its efforts and resources to improve the security and efficiency of its network products. |
