Do I have to install the VMware tools on the Protector

No.

The VMware tools are already installed in the VMware Image of the Protector UTM Appliance.

So you dont have to install it.
You can see right away that it is installed when you drag the mouse to it and see the mouse moves in the operating system without clicking.
