| India and Its Cyber Security Awareness |
The 2008 iteration of the AppSec Asia Conference was coordinated single-handedly by OWASP; however, it was definitely a smaller event compared to this year's extravaganza. The OWASP organizers for the 2009 conference aimed to cover more than just web software security, which was why they partnered themselves with Securitybyte and delivered a more varied range of cyber security matters and topics to the table. They also planned to make this an annual affair henceforth, because the interest for these meetings is obviously great among the Indian IT community.
In any case, the turn out for the Securitybyte & OWASP AppSec Asia Conference 2009 was a promising sign for the continued growth of India's awareness of cyber security protocols and issues. The gathering of numerous security specialists and over four hundred visitors was scheduled to last for four days, and it was mostly triumphant in its intention of spreading the virtual gospel of better IT security. In fact, Thursday and Friday's one- and two-day trainings were particularly successful affairs.
The 2009 AppSec Asia Conference was supposed to be launched by the former President of India, Doctor A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, but he had to cancel his appearance with Vice-Admiral Shekhar Sinha (who is the Indian Ministry of Defense's Chief of Integrated Defense Staff) at the last minute because of a conflict in his schedule. Aside from that little letdown, the entire congregation of India's bright, IT-savvy minds went without a hitch.
The magnificent and topnotch accommodations of the Hotel Crowne Plaza in Gurgaon heartily housed the momentous Securitybyte & OWASP AppSec Asia Conference 2009, which is the biggest IT security conference in India that just ended yesterday. Gurgaon is incidentally the financial and industrial headquarters of the Haryana state and is one of Delhi's four outpost cities, so it's obviously one of the foremost offshoring and outsourcing centers of the world.
Moreover, Gurgaon accommodates the regional hubs of numerous multinational corporations and had been declared the best Indian city to work and live in according to a recent survey conducted by the Business Today magazine. The bottom line here is that Gurgaon is a prominent city, so the fact that the Securitybyte & OWASP AppSec Asia Conference 2009 has been conducted there illustrates the importance of the meeting. |
