Stop Spam

A Time Magazine article has revealed that between forty to seventy percent of all email that a typical user gets are blocked by spam filtering solutions, which means recipients of such messages never get a chance to read them and decide for themselves whether or not the mail they got is spam.

Tragically, the cure has become almost as hazardous as the sickness, especially the spam filters that use overzealous standards. However, there's another way to stop spam without endangering your legitimate emails as well. The tips below will assist you in considerably decreasing the amount of spam you receive (in fact, it will be reduced by about fifty-five percent without the help of obsessive filters):

  • Consider acquiring another email address: By never using your personal email for mailing list signups and software installations, you'll be able to avoid inundating your mailbox with junk email. In addition, you can even use your twin emails as a point of comparison on what's spam and what isn't. What's more, if your "spam trap" email gets too clogged with spam, you can always discontinue the service.

  • Use multiple email addresses for different reasons: By making more than one email account, you'll be able to divide and conquer the spam menace by making spammers attack your many addresses. It will also help you streamline your spam filtering methods quite easily. For instance, use one email for personal correspondence, use a second email for subscription requests, use a third email for sales inquiries or orders, and so on.

  • Subscribe to services that offer you disposable or temporary addresses: This is another variant of the "spam trap" technique, this time involving special email services with features like an email address that lasts for twenty-four hours that you can use to register into forums and the like. Disposable email addresses are efficient spam traps that save you the trouble of deleting them once your objectives have been accomplished.

  • Remove your email address from your website: It's either you remove your email address from your site and avoid having spiders harvest it for spamming purposes or use a reasonably filtered "spam trap" email in order to separate unsolicited mail from genuine messages. You can also use web-based forms to gather feedback from your site's visitors.

  • Don't buy anything from a well-known spamming company: For obvious reasons, subscribing your email to a company that's infamous for its spamming practices is a sure way to increase your spam load. Additionally, if you dare respond to their spam and request them to stop, that will only encourage them to spam you some more, because you've just confirmed that your email address is "active" and "in use".

Stop spam now; follow the abovementioned tips in order to guarantee that you have a spam-free emailing experience. Granted, it's impossible to completely stop the spam movement at this point in time, but there are plenty of measures you can take in order to decrease the amount of spam you receive to negligible or trifling levels.
