| Botnet master lead the “death” of its own creation |
There was a certain botnet detected to have been aiming at the online users residing in Mexico. However, it was suddenly deactivated few weeks after it was first discovered by the security experts. Strangely, the cause of the botnet’s destruction was not the work of any security authorities or internet service providers (ISPs). According to the recent reports, the web criminal himself led to the annihilation of his very own botnet.
Unraveling the facts ruins another
Based on the judgment made by the popular security firm Trend Micro, the criminals were truly the ones responsible for the obliteration of their own shady creation. The web crooks must have decided to destroy their newly-created Tequila botnets due to the posts written by the security vendor about their malicious device.
The published article exposed the botnet’s presence and its other existing alternative servers. The post also uncovered the facts about the existence of redirected hosts, which are utilized by the bot administrators in order to have power over many infected computer systems.
Malicious activities end abruptly
After the broadcast of the news just a week ago about these Mexico-based botnets, several instructions were relayed to the bots. This successfully inhibited the continuous surge of phishing attacks that are distributed by the zombie network via e-mails. And, on Monday, the Tequila botnet and its partner network were both deactivated upon the shutdown of their command-and-control or C&C servers.
Complete waste of effort on their part
According to the security experts, the criminals only spent unnecessary effort when they created the Mariachi botnet, which is the up-to-the-minutes network of computer systems that are infected with malicious software. It was deemed to be this way since the latest zombie network did not surpass the features of its powerful counterpart.
Creator destroyed his own masterpiece
Bluehost, the hosting provider, finally put an end on the Mariachi botnet and this also brought down the larger control infrastructure of the Tequilla botnet. It turned out to be this way because of the decision of the creator himself.
More data may be seen on the post created by Trend Micro on its official blog. The article tells the story of the success and the easy defeat of the two Mexico-based botnets.
