Conference in Europe, officiated for the battle against cybercrime

According to the Council of Europe, battling the widespread online crimes will only be possible if execution of the Convention on Cybercrime will be done by all the concerned countries.
Working together may lead to victory
The fifth of the yearly convention managed by the Council regarding online crimes occurred this week at Strasburg. The people who partook in this conference believed that countries should work hand-in-hand and this is by sharing of the devices, procedures, and other plans that can fight off the growing number of cybercrime cases. In addition to this, the fight against online crooks will be possible only with the support of the authorities and other related industries (ISP, IT firms, and national CETS).
Firm implementation of procedures is a way to defeat thugs
A stricter procedure on registration of domain name must also be implemented by the ICANN in order to prevent crooks from easily accomplishing their illegal online activities. There was also a suggestion that the law department must use the WHOIS database as a means of destroying cybercrimes. However, confidentiality of the registrants must still be kept safe even if this is utilized.
Countries such as Russia and China were able to make use of the method wherein the registration of domain name became more complicated than before. In this case, presentation of photo IDs was necessary before one can be assigned with a domain. Security watchers approved of this new method but this also has its own downsides since there are many ID-forging services online that can pass up from this kind of procedure.
Confidentiality must never be harmed
The users’ safety and confidentiality was also considered by the conference with today’s use of the cloud-based technology. Many suggestions were made during the conference with regards to this method.
Extensive and effective utilization of the cloud computing instruments on worldwide cooperation (Data Protection Convention and Budapest Convention) must be done so as to avoid any conflicts with the authorities and privacy issues. It is also important to take into account that there should be more international standards on the authorities’ access to the private information within the clouds.
Anti-cybercrime strategies should be prioritized
Eurocrats requested for a cybercrime-themed UN convention at Salvador, Brazil. In this meeting, they will advocate the worldwide use of the method initiated by Europe in order to stop the increasing cases of online crimes, spying, and other kinds of attacks.
According to Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, Deputy Secretary General of CoE, highlighting of worldwide action against online crimes may be done during the UN Crime Congress that will be held in April this year. He also believed that winning this battle will only be possible if everyone will join hands and support the worldwide medium, Council of Europe Cybercrime Convention.
About 300 representatives from 60 different countries attended the CoE convention. Subjects included in this conference were: network mapping, methods of fighting online pornography in children, and training for judges and prosecutors. And, for the agenda of the next conference, human rights and privacy were taken into account.
