Trojan takes Energizer into a tricky situation

Energizer, a distinguished manufacturer of batteries, has been unintentionally distributing a trojan-containing file for more than a day already. They were unaware of their website’s situation until 24 hours after it occurred and still occurring for the next two weeks following the company’s assurance that the infection, which is designed to steal personal information, will be eliminated.
The female representative of Energizer Holdings stated that, on Wednesday evening, a voicemail was sent to her regarding the said malicious file that can be downloaded through the company’s European websites. It was late in the night that time that is why she was not able to give an immediate response. The company was also unaware of the news bulletins by two leading anti-virus service that their website still possesses and serves the infected file even after they promised to have it remedied.
The spokesperson of Energizer thought that being called at 9:30 P.M., which is past the working hours, is an unusual thing. Also, the news regarding the file was already broadcasted before they even tried to respond to the news casters’ call.
But when the lady representative was asked about the page where the malicious file was located, Usbharger_setup_V1_1_1.exe file, the woman strayed from the matter and promised that they will work on it as fast as they could. However, even nine hours after the said interview, the malicious file was still available in the Energizer website.
The company was very apologetic considering the trojan issue and with all sincerity, they guarantee their customers that they will remove the infected file. But nothing happened 13 days after the company gave out its word. Actions, such as direct communication with the Energizer representative and broadcasting news, were carried out in order to solve this problem. But then, the company still did not move an inch in fighting the trojan-containing file.
Many are encouraged to take another step in order to get the company’s attention using their advertising slogan and note the irony in their statement. The only advice that may be presented to this manufacturer is that they must remove the damaging contents in their website only if they are concerned about their customers’ safety. Lastly, this should be done without more ado.
