Paypal halts Cryptome's operation
The famous site for buying and selling of products, eBay Inc., has deferred Cryptome’s existing Paypal account. In addition, all of its accumulated donations during the past 2 weeks were also seized throughout the process. James Young, a New York architect and owner of the activist website Cryptome, gave back to its rightful donors the sum amount of money of about 5, 300 US dollars.

Cryptome’s business over the years

Young was known to have founded and run Cryptome.org for the past 16 years, since 1996. This site was able to store tons of files concentrating mainly on the intelligence and internet policies, which were actually unheard of and were kept from the knowledge of the internet users worldwide. Most of these written and documented plans were stored in DVDs and these records were sold through Cryptome’s Paypal account.

Internet companies’ cooperation with authorities

Until recently, Cryptome raised another internet-related concern and this site published the issue wherein the internet companies are collaborating with the law enforcements. Cryptome was able to get a hold of and sell the undisclosed policies on the subject of the internet companies’ association with the law enforcers. This released guideline was generally about the information wherein a number of popular internet companies (Microsoft, Facebook, Skype, and even Paypal that is owned by eBay) collect data about their countless quantity of users and these are then surrendered to the law department when necessary.

Cryptome’s requested shut down

Cryptome did not abide by Microsoft’s appeal that the website takes off all the leaked demeaning documents, which were clearly against this well-known corporation. This had been Microsoft’s grounds for requesting over the Networks Solutions, with the help of the US Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DCMA), to close the Cryptome.org domain. And, on the 25th of February 2010, the website was put offline as per Microsoft’s demand. But then, when Cryptome removed the said copyrighted Microsoft file, Network Solutions restored this whistleblower website.

Cryptome’s funds on hold

At present, this news about Cryptome’s Paypal account being frozen remains unconfirmed since Paypal has not yet released any statement that will verify the said news.
