| Emergency IE patch to be produced by Microsoft |
As of the latest from Microsoft Corporation, there will be an out-of-sequence update that will be released today. This is a patch that will serve as a solution against the zero-day attack that has been threatening users due to the weakness of the Internet Explorer against it.
Updates to fix vulnerabilities
During the past few weeks, Microsoft was able to give the users vast amount of patches for the Internet Explorer (MS10-018). These series of patches were intended to remedy the security vulnerabilities in the Internet Explorer versions 6 and 7 that are being taken advantage of by the web crooks.
Internet Explorer 8, however, which is Microsoft’s most up-to-date web browser, is not susceptible to any security threat. Still, the company first recognized a new vulnerability on the 9th of March this year.
Malicious software may harm computer systems
Microsoft’s web browser, Internet Explorer, has a defect in the iepeers.dll library making it at risk for attacks by hackers. There is an involvement of management of the invalid values distributed to the “setAttribut()” function.
Online thugs take advantage of this fault, enabling them to inject malicious software into the computer system of their victims. This can be done when web users visit pages that contain certain suspicious codes with the use of a vulnerable version of the Internet Explorer.
Microsoft release updates that deviate from the usual
According to a statement made by the Microsoft Corporation, they consider their action as a bizarre yet one-of-a-kind step against the security threats online. The release of their patch deviates from the regular update cycle of their company.
Microsoft has been monitoring various online activities and this led them into making this ultimate decision. They believe that releasing an out-of-band patch is necessary in order to fully protect their customers from various web security threats.
Patch that doesn’t focus on just one threat
Microsoft’s planned update does not focus only to a single vulnerability of the browser. This is designed to remedy the nine vulnerabilities found in the Internet Explorer, which was planned to be fixed on the 13th of April 2010.
