Microsoft and Apple in its week of security adjustments

Both technology companies, Apple and Microsoft, spent the past week on remedying the serious security glitches found on their merchandises. On the other hand, the argument has not been ended between Google and the government of China.
Updates can actually be judged vital
Microsoft Corporation distributed to the users an out-of-band update for the earlier versions of their browser, IE6 and IE7. This kind of fix patch is already the second update released by the company this year.
According to the technology giant, this update deals with both the security flaw in the IE web browser and also for the other serious flaws detected on the different versions of IE that are not considered linked with the recent malicious attacks.
It was also the day when Apple released a major update for an enhanced security of their two operating systems: Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) and Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard). This official patch includes a mechanism that will boost the performance and stability of latter version of operating system. In addition, their patch was perfectly designed in order to address 69 different flaws found in the components of both the operating systems. Nine glitches in QuickTime and four in the ImageIO component were also taken into consideration.
Definitely not a perfect week for all sectors
It was a bothersome for the web giant Google, however, because of their unending clash with the government of China. It was reported that China was blocking some mobile services being hosted by the Google. Moreover, Google’s senior security researcher was complaining about the online attacks that came from the said country early in January. These attacks were considered to be a greater threat to the online community.
Contrary to popular belief, online attacks were not just only directed to Google but Yahoo! Mail accounts were also experiencing the same amount of danger from the same area. Just recently, the Yahoo! Mail accounts of the foreign journalists were hacked by unknown online crooks from China.
Breach of privacy was witnessed
Facebook did not have a prosperous week either as a flaw on the privacy set-up was found within the social networking service’s system. In this security fault, all individuals can view the webmail addresses of the site’s users.
According to Blue Coat Systems, a known security firm, there is a necessity for an increased security so as to safeguard the enterprise against all kinds of social engineering attacks. This kind of effort must come not only from the administrators but it must also include the security vendors.
It was a disheartening week for Barnet Council as well due to a data breach that happened on the information about 9,000 children. These data about the youngsters were infringed since unencrypted USBs and CDs that contain the said details were stolen from the abode of a staff. This should not have happened since it is already a violation of the council policy to take home confidential information on unencrypted devices.
