XP system collapses with new McAfee patches

The latest security patch that was released by McAfee caused trouble for the users since it was the root of the collapse of computers that are operated with the use of Windows XP SP3. Hence, McAfee was in a hurry in order to create and distribute a new update that can remedy the previous fault.
Supposed fix turned out to be a failure
On Wednesday, the security firm distributed their 5958 DAT patch for the benefit of their users. However, it was immediately collected by McAfee after receiving loads of complaints from a large number of its users who have experienced the “blue screen of death” and also the DCOM errors.
Scanner gives out its siren for a false detection
The problem takes place once the application is patched up and is utilized for scanning. Running the security scan may give the Windows XP user a warning that is considered pseudo positive. With this, the scanner will caution the individual about an infection, W32/wecorl.a malware, which in reality is not present within the system. Thus, the computer system will experience an error and it will instantly shut down.
According to McAfee, they have already made the remedy patch for the faulty DAT file. And as of today, the damaging component has already been removed to avoid greater harm on the computer systems of the users. In addition, after the systems update on the morning of Wednesday this week, the US Pacific Time no longer experience the same error as the one that happened before.
Processes may be done by the users themselves
The latest version of the DAT file was uploaded by McAfee for the purpose of updating the ones incorporated in their client’s security scanners. The security firm recommends that the users and the administrators should start up their systems using the Safe Mode. And then, they can swap the old DAT file with the new one. Lastly, they may also return the files that were kept quarantined by the security scanner. Another way in order to manually remedy the affected system is through the replacement of the svchost.exe within the busted system by the same file from an undamaged computer.
