Over 26,000 Facebook users prepared to retire today

About 26,000 users of the popular social networking site are bound to leave on today’s event “Quit Facebook Day”. These individuals decided this move because of the website’s unresolved privacy problems.
Destructive effects will not arise
Based on the latest study, this event will not cause much damage to the social network Facebook. As stated by Vision Critical, a known research firm, they are doubtful that the departure of the thousands will actually occur because these people are already attached to the trendy website.
Dissatisfaction causes people to lose interest
The individuals with registered accounts in Facebook have been disappointed during the previous months due to the crisis in the management of confidential information. There were occurrences of change in the privacy setting in the month of December wherein the users may choose the people who can see their updates. However, the policy prior to this one appeared to be more convenient as it permitted the users to generate their own policies.
The social network believed that this dreadful incident was their mistake. And, upon receiving loads of criticisms from the data protection agency from Europe and the Federal Trade Commission in US, they immediately altered their policy on handling data.
But then, the users saw the flaws and inadequacies in the changes made by the administrators on the privacy settings of Facebook.  As said by the Quit Facebook Day group, they felt the website’s lack of respect due to the recent faults in the privacy systems.
Such event was deemed implausible
According to the media president of Vision Critical, Matt Kleinschmit, the users of Facebook were found to have their worries rising due to the latest glitches on privacy. However, the firm believes the threat of many people leaving the website in just a single day is greatly impossible to happen.
The registered users have great affection over the social network that they cannot easily deactivate their Facebook account on which they spent most of their time.
Few people agreed to leave Facebook
In accordance to the survey conducted by Vision Critical on 700 Facebook users in the United States, just about 11 percent of them know something about the “Quit Facebook Day”. Also, only 2 percent of the total number of respondents would be joining this movement.
Additionally, 80 percent of the surveyed users are now aware of how they can protect their accounts and that 76 percent said they have lessened the amount of personal information, which they are sharing compared to that of before.
