Scammers prepare for another World-Cup-based attack

Both the scammers and football-enthusiasts are preparing themselves for this coming World Cup event that will be held in South Africa this month. In this case, the football’s leading group FIFA sent out words of caution all over the world in order to notify the followers about the different kinds of scams lurking in the web. The organization is sure that these dirty tactics will continue to emerge even up to the beginning of the football competition, which will push through 10 days from now.
Various forms of attacks flourish
Different kinds of malicious tricks will most likely proliferate and these may include the FIFA lottery, competition scams, and prize draws. The specific forms of cheats are considered to be an advanced-type of fee fraud.
This type of fraud works in such a way that the scammers try to ask for money in the form of “administrative fees” from the web users. The vicious men will then tell the users that they need to pay for this bill so as to get the imaginary tickets or cash prizes from the World Cup.
Users must not believe right away
It was stated in the notice that the tickets for the contests and raffle connected to the FIFA World Cup of 2010 may only be sold by the companies, which are officially linked with the governing organization FIFA. Examples of corporations that are allowed to trade these tickets are the sponsors of the competition.
Based on the latest news, spam e-mails that contain the 419-lite raffle scams and are thought to be linked with the FIFA World Cup are already distributed in the web. Scams will flood the online community as the football event comes near.
Spam mails have diverse origins
According to the study conducted by the security firms, the source of these e-mails is not the botnet systems of affected computers. The scammers today make use of the 419 scam-friendly IP addresses that are located in Nigeria so as to spread the fraud mails more freely.
A move is now being performed by the hosted security group of the firm Symantec, MessageLabs, in an attempt to catch all the malware-containing e-mails that are associated with the World Cup. And, with the firm’s immediate action, it was discovered that the scam messages had IP addresses of that in Macau, China, and Portugal. Additionally, the scammers used the name of the soft drink companies, which are going to sponsor the tournament, in spreading the e-mails all throughout the web.
